Ann Curry
Ann Curry is an American photographer and journalist. She has worked as a journalist for over 45 years focused on people suffering from conflict zones as well as natural disasters. Curry has reported on wars all over the world, including in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Curry's father was a naval officer with the U.S. Navy and her mother was Japanese. The couple met when her father was stationed in Japan after World War II. Her father served in the military, and she had to move around often. Curry attended high school in the city of Ashland, Oregon. In 1978, she graduated from in the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. She was exposed to a variety of cultures as well as her experiences throughout her childhood likely influenced her empathetic way of communicating on issues of international significance. In the following years, she worked as anchor and reporter at KGW located in Portland Oregon. When she moved to Los Angeles, she became a reporter on KCBS TV just four years after making the move into the city. She received two Emmy Awards during the six years she spent with this station.
